Meet our Family

The children's mum had been killed and they had been taken in by their aunt. With 8 people living in the two room dwelling, with mud floors, no sanitation or financial support.

Look just how malnourished Adam is. After a few unbelievable days Footprints welcomed its first new children for 2017. Adam and his older brother Gift came together.

Anna and her brother Kijana’s parents died within a year of each other. They were left in the care of elderly relatives who couldn’t even afford food for themselves.

Ayub was just 5 years old when he joined us here at footprints. His siblings are Jackson and David, all of who lost their mother through the HIV infection.

Bakari is the brother to Hadija and Hassan, he is also the cousin to Ali. In 2010, after the death of his mother, his grandmother took on the responsibility of all four siblings.

After 3 months of investigations, Bengao and his sister Abigail joined Footprints. The children's Mother had been killed and they had been taken in by their Auntie.

Chizzi, who was not allowed to go to school, was forced by her parents into a marriage with a 56 year old man. She was rescued by the police after 3 months in this situation.

David was only 15 months old when he joined us here at footprints. His siblings are Jackson and Ayrub who all lost their mother through the HIV infection.

Dotty’s mother was just 14 years old when she was horrifically abused on her way home from school, and Dotty is the result of this. Her mother died just a few months after giving birth.

Faith is one of six girls, who were living very happily with their parents. One day men broke into their home and killed their parents in front of all of the sisters.

He was close to death and wrapped in newspaper for warmth. After much care and good nutrition George began to thrive into a wonderfully bright and cheeky toddler.

Gift has a little brother called Adam and they both came together. Their other name is unknown, as their mother unfortunately died shortly after his birth.

Harrun's mother died during childbirth, after giving birth to her last daughter of 7 children. After his mother died, his father struggled to find work and look after all of the children

Jane is the sister of Mary, Eliza and George. She and her sisters were looking after their four month old brother, when their Mother and Father died within two days of each other.

Yesterday afternoon, we were called upon to rescue this little lady. Her name is Janet and she was born at sometime on Wednesday. She hadn’t been fed anything since being born!

Joseph and his older brother Raphael, were living at another orphanage, before it was suddenly closed down by the government for abusing the children in their care.

Kijana, and his younger sister Anna, were orphaned after their parents died within a year of each other. Like many of our children, they were left with elderly relatives.

Kolonzo is progressing very nicely, even though he does find it difficult. He is beginning to speak English with more confidence. Look at that smile on his face now.

When the sisters were visited at their home, the conditions they were living in were dire and shocking. Their bedroom was pitch black with no windows or electricity.

Lupina and her brother Mathias were found surviving in a local dump site. After failing to convince their mother to relocate and the effect on the children, we had to act.

Me-Juma experienced a horrendous ordeal at the courts and has been placed in our care for the next three years, in which time she will learn to trust the Footprints family.

Mutua's mother suffered with epilepsy and his baby sister died after being suffocated during one of her seizures. A few weeks later his mother died during a seizure.

Mwongeli's mother lost both of her legs to tetanus and she was living in awful conditions with 6 year old Mwongeli and her older brother, earning barely enough to live.

Our final addition to the Footprints Family this year is our youngest ever child, a baby of only 10 days old. He was abandoned on the roadside and found by a 13 year old boy.

Njoki's mother died shortly after giving birth. When she came to Footprints she was shy but is now a happy-go-lucky girl with an infectious smile and doing well at school.

Rabecca and her sister Lavena were living with their grandparents. Their grandfather is in his eighties and they were really struggling to feed and look after the girls.

Rashid was 3 years old and could be seen in the nearby town in Ukunda, without his parents, running across the very busy roads, exposed to all sorts of dangers.

Little Baby Rose was rescued into the care of Footprints Orphanage when her mother Ruth, at the young age of 16 was forced to escape her awfully unimaginable home life.
